Toolkits & Service Guides (2021 – 2024)

Zero Waste Toolkit for Multifamily Property Managers & OwnersThis toolkit was designed to assist multifamily properties in complying with Gainesville’s zero waste ordinances. I scripted the majority of the content, created several of the graphics, and took most of the photographs used in this toolkit.

Food Waste Program Service InstructionsThese service instructions were distributed to new food waste program participants with collection containers. It provided detailed information on which food waste items were accepted and how to properly set out containers for collection. I scripted the text and collaborated with an on-staff graphic designer to create this piece.

Curbside Collection Guidelines This quick reference guide explains all the curbside refuse services for Gainesville residents, including detailed instructions and helpful tips to ensure proper waste disposal. A modified version of this piece was mailed to all residential customers in January 2024. A separate guide translated into Spanish was also created and made available to residents. I produced and designed this piece, including drafting all of the content.

Brochures, Flyers & Posters

Keep Your Cardboard CleanThis flyer was designed to assist retail outlets and other businesses in improving their recycling habits and reducing contamination from entering the recycled cardboard stream. The flyer is in Spanish on the reverse side. I produced and designed this piece, including drafting all of the content.

Choose the Right Size Garbage Cart – This flyer was used to educate residents on Gainesville’s Pay-As-You-Throw waste collection system. I scripted the text and collaborated with an on-staff graphic designer to create this piece.

Love Food, Hate Waste! – This flyer was created as part of the USDA food waste reduction grant to educate Gainesville residents on the importance of reducing food waste. I scripted the text and collaborated with an on-staff graphic designer to create this piece.

Your Guide to Easy Recycling This recycling guide booklet was created to help Denver residents determine what materials are recyclable in the single-stream residential recycling program. The pieces replaced an outdated one-page recycling flyer. The guide was formatted in a magazine style with an 8” by 8” finished size, which allowed for more pages and information on agency programs and services without being overwhelming for the targeted audience. Additionally, the format allowed for reverse sides in both English and Spanish. I scripted the text, selected the images, and collaborated with an on-staff graphic designer to create this piece.

Making the Most of Your Solid Waste Services This guide was used to inform Denver residents about all their solid waste services. I played a key role in creating this comprehensive guide, which replaced three separate flyers previously used by the agency. To make this guide more accessible, I added reverse sides in both English and Spanish. I scripted the text, selected the images, took most of the crew and equipment photographs, and collaborated with an on-staff graphic designer to create this piece.

Guides to Recycling

  • Retailers
  • Hotels, Motels, Restaurants & Bars
  • Offices & Institutions
  • Apartments & Multi-Family Properties

Four distinct recycling guides were created to help different types of businesses in their recycling efforts and to clarify Gainesville’s original Mandatory Commercial Recycling Ordinance. These guides were distributed at business trade shows and hand-delivered to businesses during site visits. Under my direction, Group 5 Advertising was responsible for the design work while I crafted the text.

Recycle Your Holiday Lights 2017This flyer & poster was used to announce the launch of a new program. I collaborated closely with the graphic designer to develop the “Recycle Your Holiday Lights” logo and carefully crafted the text to ensure that it would help minimize the amount of contaminants brought to the collection site. The flyer is double-sided, with one side in English and the other in Spanish.

“Go Green” Denver Composts SignupThe purpose of this flyer was to provide a one-page document that simplified the reasons why Denver residents should sign up for the Composts program. It also highlighted the list of items that are accepted for composting. The flyer is double-sided, with one side in English and the other in Spanish. I scripted the text, selected the images, and collaborated with an on-staff graphic designer to create this piece.

Denver Employees: Partners In Recycling This poster was used to educate Denver employees on workplace recycling practices and was placed at all recycling container locations in over 150 city facilities. I designed it to be easily readable and visually appealing with bright colors and graphic elements. I scripted the text, selected the images and layout, and collaborated with an on-staff graphic designer to create this piece.

Denver LeafDrop 2012 For this flyer & poster, my aim was to create a clear and concise way to explain the program’s different event days and locations. I intentionally chose an image of a man with a rake to add more diversity and appeal to the content. I was responsible for writing the text and coming up with the layout concept.

Denver Treecycle 2012The purpose of this flyer & poster was to offer a simple visual guide for residents to recycle their holiday trees and inform them how to receive mulch made from the trees in the spring. This was the first poster of Denver Recycles’ seasonal program that had English text on the front and Spanish text on the back. This helped reduce paper usage and expand the audience range. I came up with the idea for this poster and collaborated closely with a graphic artist to create the illustrations. In addition to the standard distribution channels, this poster was exhibited at all local holiday tree lot sale locations.

Learn To Compost Classes 2011This flyer & poster was made in partnership with Denver Urban Gardens and Metro Wastewater Reclamation District to promote the offering of free backyard composting classes. It successfully merges the program messaging in a graphically pleasing way while incorporating a hefty amount of text with the calendar portion of the poster. This poster was distributed throughout the Denver metro area and was a significant factor in class attendance. I scripted the text, selected the images, and collaborated with an on-staff graphic designer to produce this piece.

Cherry Creek Recycling Drop-off Facility This flyer was used to educate residents visiting Denver’s Recycling Drop-off Facility. Particular emphasis was placed on visibly identifying items not accepted for drop-off. To maintain visual interest, the information for “Yard Waste & Compost,” along with a map and facility hours, were placed on the backside. I scripted the text, selected the images, and collaborated with an on-staff graphic designer to produce this piece.

Large Item Pickup Calendar – This flyer provided residents with information to keep track of their new nine-week Large Item Pickup schedule for the year. I worked closely with the graphic artist on producing a colorful and easy-to-read service area map. I also ensured that all dates were correctly marked and easily interpreted through the calendar’s legend. Service information was presented in both English and Spanish.
